Evangelion studio Gainax files for bankruptcy

(image)

Gainax, the animation studio behind works such as Neon Genesis Evangelion, FLCL, and Gurren Lagann, has filed for bankruptcy.

According to the Automaton report and translation, Gainax acknowledged a May 29 Tokyo District Court filing had been accepted. The company stated its cause for bankruptcy was due to mismanagement that began around 2012. Those troubles reportedly surfaced when management and executives began operating the company to suit their private goals, which involved various unprofitable ventures and taking out risky loans.

Hideaki Anno and Gainax

Evangelion series creator Hideaki Anno has always been known for having a complicated relationship with his work and especially its fans. The problem might’ve been caused or fueled by Gainax itself. Despite the success of Evangelion, Anno claims he ended up never receiving fair compensation for the profits the series had earned. Anno ended up leaving the company in 2007.

Anno went on to form studio Khara, which then acquired the rights to Evangelion and made the Rebuild series. This all unfolded as part of Gainax’s attempt to stay afloat by selling its popular IPs, but that was far from the painless separation one might have anticipated.

In 2019, Gainax president Tomohiro Maki was arrested for sexual misconduct. Anno had long departed the company, but was still associated with Gainax in the public eye. The Evangelion creator went on to publicly thank those affected for speaking out.

The slow end of Gainax

Though the studio is known for animating a library of classics over its 40 years of existence, it was never a stranger to turmoil. Even back in 1992, when Gainax was seemingly at the top of its game during the heyday of Evangelion, it saw the departure of important figures such as Shinji Higuchi, the known filmmaker and namesake of Evangelion’s Shinji Ikari.

Mismanagement caused Gainax to enter a slow decline in the 2010s, and what kept it from going under before was the support received from Anno’s Khara. Still, the company’s leadership was incapable of dealing with the large amount of debt that the company had accumulated over many years of poor decisions.

It’s disappointing to see the studio fall, but ultimately, it had been in decline for years before its financial ruin. The Gainax of 2024 is a stark contrast from the days of Evangelion, FLCL, and Gurren Lagann.

How will FC Mobile Training Transfer work

(image)

After months of requests from the community, FC Mobile Training Transfer will finally arrive in Ultimate Team as part of the upcoming update.

The new system could be a complete game changer, as it will help players reduce a lot of grind. Anyone who has played the game will know how important it is to train cards, but the process isn’t infinite. After a certain point of time, the resources become scarce, which also hinders squad development. The FC Mobile Training Transfer, as planned by EA Sports, will help to reduce many headaches.

FC Mobile Training Transfer Guide

The FC Mobile Training Transfer process will be pretty straightforward, and a new currency will be introduced for the same purpose. You’ll be able to earn Training Transfer points, which will be used to shift the XP from one card to another.

  • Select Training Transfer from the menu.
  • First, select the card from which the training will be transferred.
  • Second, select the card which will receive the XP.
  • Click on the ‘Transfer’ button to complete the process.

There are still going to be a lot of strategies involved with the transfer process. First, the training transfer will be limited if the target player has a lower rank. In such cases, the extra XP will remain with the original card, and you can transfer it once the rank of the target card is high enough. Additionally, ranks of the cards won’t be affected by any transfer of training.

You should also remember that 10% XP will be lost in each transfer. Training Transfer points, required in every exchange, won’t be infinite either. However, there will be plenty of in-game activities from which players can earn these points.

FC Mobile Training Transfer will be available after the update on June 11. This update will also introduce a new Euro 2024 tournament mode in Ultimate Team. You can select any of the qualified nations and write your own history.

Destiny 2 Streamers have started hiding their gameplay as they reach pivotal encounter in Salvation’s Edge’s race for world first

(image)

Streamers competing in the race for world first in Destiny 2: The Final Shape‘s raid, Salvation’s Edge, have started hiding their live gameplay feeds on stream. Ever since the race kicked off on June 7, 2024, streamer fireteams have been neck and neck as they work through encounters, but now it’s hard to tell where anyone is.

Every team in the race has been working through Salvation’s Edge at roughly the same pace. They’re the first people to complete some encounters, and it’s been such a fun experience to watch as a fan playing this franchise since the Destiny 1 Alpha. However, as fireteams approach what is believed to be the end of the raid, the fifth encounter, many have turned off their live gameplay feeds. In some cases, this means that all we can see is a blank screen, and it’s not as enjoyable as I imagine watching Guardians pummel The Witness should be.

Destiny 2‘s Salvation’s Edge world first completion might end up being off stream

I’m not sure exactly when streamers began hiding their gameplay, but every stream I check now is either just the streamer’s face or a screen with a few images on. Some are even muted, meaning there’s absolutely no way to track what’s happening.

Datto shows his face and reactions, but he’s muted, so all you can hear is the gameplay audio. He’s put a message up on-screen, but it doesn’t explain why his gameplay is gone. “I gotta hide for now, enjoy my reactions and sounds I guess.”

Fans on the Destiny 2 subreddit and Twitter are discussing the fact that almost every streamer is hiding their gameplay. User RhysWild has posted what might be the funniest summary of what’s going on right now.

I’m almost certain that most streamers are still recording their gameplay and will upload it once they’ve completed Salvation’s Edge. While I’d love to see it live, I think this situation makes the race fairer because now all competing fireteams are right at the end of the raid; being able to see what another team is doing and if they make any meaningful progress feels like an unfair advantage.

The race for world first in Destiny 2: The Final Shape‘s Salvation’s Edge began at 1 PM ET on June 7, 2024. At the time of writing, this race has been going on for almost 20 hours. That makes it the longest race for world first in Destiny 2 history, which is quite the feat.

I think it’s quite fitting that the last major expansion for the game has the toughest raid to beat. I’m going to remember this as a fan of the game, even when other raids are added because there’s never quite been a situation like it for this community.

Every Fallout 76 hackable terminal, locations and levels

(image)

Of all of the daily quests that players can acquire in Fallout 76, hacking a terminal is the most loathed of them all. The hacking minigame isn’t as exciting as exterminating pests or hunting down creatures for their materials. Plus, perks are required to attempt to hack most of the terminals found in the game.

But hacking terminals doesn’t have to be so tedious. Unlike slaying creatures, players don’t have to worry about spawns or interference from others. Terminals are found in fixed locations and are always the same level, so besides the minigame itself, they can be the most straightforward daily quest to complete.

How to hack terminals in Fallout 76

There are four levels of terminals found across Appalachia that range from zero to three. Level zero terminals can be hacked by any player since they don’t require any perks. Terminal levels one through three require having the Hacker, Expert Hacker, and Master Hacker perk cards respectively in order to hack them.

Different levels of terminals will provide varying rewards and any level terminal will fulfill most quest or achievement requirements (besides Tadpole challenges which mention particular levels).

While the screen filled with characters might be intimidating at first, hacking terminals is fairly simple.

  • You begin with four attempts to guess the correct password.

    • The level of the terminal determines the number of possible passwords shown along with the number of characters.

  • When selecting a password, keep track of the “Likeness” rating given to each password you’ve chosen. Use the process of elimination to avoid any words that don’t have the same number of matching characters.
  • Try to select a word that has similar characters to other options in the terminal. This would make it easier to narrow down which characters are correct.
  • Selecting clusters of symbols that are enclosed by “()”, “{}”, “[]”, or “<>” will grant either additional attempts or will remove any false passwords from the terminal. (Example shown below)

Hacking terminals in Fallout 76 is much more forgiving than in the other Fallout games. In previous installments, failing the minigame would lock the player out of the terminal for the rest of the game. In Fallout 76, the terminal will eject the player after a failure and then allow them to try again after a few seconds.

Level 0 terminal locations in Fallout 76

1 The Whitesprings Resort Inside the general manager’s office
2 Morgantown Airport One found in the basement, another in the storage room
3 Poseidon Energy Plant At the receptionist’s desk and in the fuel storage room
4 Garrahan Mining Headquarters Two terminals the end of the monorail tunnel, one found in the CEO’s office

Level 1 terminal locations in Fallout 76

1 Fujiniya Intelligence Base Under Mama Dolce’s, through the hatch and to the right, and then another found in a locked cage after going down three flights of stairs
2 Dyer Chemical The supervisor’s terminal inside the building with two chimneys
3 Red Rocket Mega Stop The maintenance terminal
4 Sal’s Grinders On the second floor

Level 2 terminal locations in Fallout 76

Number on Map Terminal Location Location Details
1 Watoga Emergency Services, Drumlin Diner (northeastern part of Watoga) The engineer’s terminal, cafe terminal
2 Appalachian Antiques Manager’s terminal
3 Garrahan Mining Headquarters Admin office terminal
4 Flooded Trainyard Train Watchtower terminal
5 Monongah Mine Mining Supervisor’s terminal

Level 3 terminal locations in Fallout 76

Number on Map Terminal Location Location Details
1a/1b/1c Alpha/Bravo/Charlie Silos Security Command terminal, Security Station terminal, Monitoring Station, Foyer, Mainframe Access terminal
2 Garrahan Estate On the third floor of the gun range
3 Grafton Dam Knight Moreno’s terminal
4 Pleasant Valley Cabins Brody Torrance’s terminal

There are many more terminals found within Fallout 76, most of which require key items, quest completions, or reputation levels to access them. Certainly, more will be added with the upcoming Skyline Valley map expansion. If any hackable terminals are added that are more accessible than the ones on these lists, we’ll be sure to update them.
